چکیده

Methods are presented for segmenting dense 3D surface point data into smooth surface patches. The smooth patches are further subdivided into patches of particular surface types. These highly structured patches provide useful cues for identifying objects or locating features of an object.

Recognition of simple curved surfaces from 3 Dsurface dataDr

This paper is concerned with the robust identiication of patches from simple geometric surfaces such as planes, spheres, and cylinders. This is done from 3D data acquired using a range scanner, along with principal quadric estimates at each point. Properties of the Gaus-sian and mean curvature (e.g., their sign) at points on surfaces of the target class are used to reject all points that could ...

Assessment of the Log-Euclidean Metric Performance in Diffusion Tensor Image Segmentation

Introduction: Appropriate definition of the distance measure between diffusion tensors has a deep impact on Diffusion Tensor Image (DTI) segmentation results. The geodesic metric is the best distance measure since it yields high-quality segmentation results. However, the important problem with the geodesic metric is a high computational cost of the algorithms based on it. The main goal of this ...

Multiresolution 3-D range segmentation using focus cues

This paper describes a novel system for computing a three-dimensional (3-D) range segmentation of an arbitrary visible scene using focus information. The process of range segmentation is divided into three steps: an initial range classification, a surface merging process, and a 3-D multiresolution range segmentation. First, range classification is performed to obtain quantized range estimates. ...

The Layered Net Surface Problems in Discrete Geometry and Medical Image Segmentation

Efficient detection of multiple inter-related surfaces representing the boundaries of objects of interest in d-D images (d >/= 3) is important and remains challenging in many medical image analysis applications. In this paper, we study several layered net surface (LNS) problems captured by an interesting type of geometric graphs called ordered multi-column graphs in the d-D discrete space (d >/...
